The capital of Poland, Warsaw, was one of central Europe's most beautiful cities until it suffered massive devastation in World War II. As a result, most of the city has been reconstructed to reflect its glorious past and it now has more open space and parks than most other European cities with most of its major streets lined with trees.
Warsaw is 195 miles from Cracow and 216 miles from Gdansk. It is served by Warsaw's Okecie Airport, which is six miles south-west of the city centre. The city is divided by the Vistula River, with the city centre, Warsaw University and the Old Town on the left bank where the Old Market Square is the focus of a lively nightlife and fascinating street entertainment by day. The increasingly fashionable district of Praga lies on the right bank of the river.
The Old Town (Stare Miasto) has been lovingly restored to its former glory in the 17th and 18th centuries. Today it is a blend of Renaissance, Baroque and Gothic style architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage site. This, together with the lush botanical gardens of Lazienki Park and the elegant shopping district of Nowy Swiat are all excellent diversions for the business traveller and tourist alike.
With over thirty museums, twenty theatres and concert halls, Warsaw offers a wealth of cultural opportunities and is a music-lover's paradise, renowned for its competitions and festivals of every genre of music, from jazz to classical and from reggae to trance. Chopin lovers can visit the composer's last place of residence, and the anniversary of his birth and death are marked by concerts.
Ideally for the business traveller, only a few minutes north of the hotel is the Central Business District (CBD) and the Pulawska Financial Centre, the epicentre of commercial activity in Warsaw.

Lazienki Park
Within walking distance of the hotel is the famous Lazienki Park . This romantic park was landscaped in 1764 for the king's residence. It features several palaces and pavilions, a temple, historic monuments, an amphitheatre and two orangeries. The Palace on the Water, within the park, is a monument of Polish history with its splendid interior providing an ideal setting for cultural events, art exhibitions and official state ceremonies. The summer theatre, modelled on the ancient temple of Herculaneum , is flanked by sculptures of famous poets and is set on an island with the stage separated from the auditorium by water. During the summer, free Chopin concerts are held every Sunday at his monument, which stands in the park. It is walking distance from the hotel.

Jewish Warsaw
The first Jewish settlers appeared in Mazovia at around the start of the 14th century. By late 18th century over 9% of the capitals inhabitants were Jewish. By 1939 Warsaw was home to over 350000 Jews. The horror of WWII and Warsaw Ghetto Upraising and the subsequent prejudice of the anti-Semite government decimated Poland 's Jewish population. Today only 2000 Jews live in Warsaw.
Palace of Culture
The Stalinesque skyscraper, towering over the city, is probably the most impressive example of this style of architecture outside the former Soviet Union . The Palace was and remains an unwelcome and oft resented "gift" from Stalin and his soviet cronies. Completed 1955, after 3 years of toil, it served essentially as reminder that Big Brother was indeed watching. Standing 231 metres high it now serves as a great point of orientation for bumbling tourists. The viewing platform on the 30th floor houses interactive maps, a slide show and display of Polish architecture. The world's highest tower clock 160m was also unveiled in 2001 and can be seen from 5 km away. With a capacity of over 817,000m3 and over 3000 rooms the palace also houses museums, theatres, offices.
